My Fellow Americans,
It’s Inauguration Day. It’s the day we as a country welcome our 45th President. We as a country should be welcoming President Trump with open and hopeful arms but for some reason we aren’t. I am seeing CHILDREN cursing the President on TV. I am seeing hate spewed towards the man who will spend the next four years running our country. I am seeing members of our government refusing to attend the Inauguration for their new boss; which is beyond disrespectful. That would never be accepted in the “civilian world” so why is it okay for the government?
President Trump will make big decisions that will affect not only our futures but our children’s futures. I can understand the fear. I myself felt that way just eight years ago. I was fearful of where President Obama would lead this country. I didn’t vote for him yet he became my President and MY Commander-in-Chief. I didn’t vote for him and I was fearful but I never burned flags over it. I never claimed he wasn’t my President. I never wanted him to fail!
It’s time for each of you to realize, Trump voter or not, that if President Trump fails then we fail as a country! There is no other option. You need to get on board with our new President. You can hold on to that fear because I can understand it. I am fearful as well. We have a horrible track record as a country of voting in Presidents that promise a lot and end up doing little to nothing they promised. I am fearful that President Trump won’t follow through on some of the issues that are important to me. However, I have to set that fear aside and you should too! Instead, you need to pray for God to help guide President Trump so that he may have the ability to lead this country in the right direction.
I am not saying you can’t disagree with things that are happening. I’m not saying you can’t express those thoughts and feelings. It’s a FREE country and I love that we can each have our own opinions. There is a difference with expressing your opinion and being hateful. When you fill your opinion with hate then your message gets lost. People focus on the hate and not on the important part of the message. Be open to a discussion and seeing both sides of the issue. I’m so tired of the hate, anger and arguing. Start being grown-ups! Be knowledgeable in the issues important to you and have an adult conversation with someone. Quit spewing hate and blame. What will correct the problem? Start putting that message out there and for the love, quit blaming President Trump. The man is just now taking office today. Whether you like him or not, it’s hard to argue that even before he took office he has helped bring jobs back to America and he has helped get our budget problems on track. I’d say that is one darn good start. If you were in his position, you would want people to give you a chance. How about you extend the same courtesy to him!
Life is hard, it’s messy and there are NO PARTICIPATION TROPHIES for it! Be adults, show love, show compassion and quit looking for others to provide you a “safe space”. God is where you need to look for your safe space. Be kind to one another and pray for our government as a whole to have the guidance from God so that we can find the future we are hopeful for.
Signed,
A Hopeful & Faithful American
You made some very good points in your post. I agree that now is the time for all Americans to stop the hate and disrespect of President Trump. While I did not vote for him, and I’m very fearful as to what will happen to my rights as a woman and an American, I do not want President Trump to fail. I’ve seen memes created saying “that’s like wanting the pilot of your airplane to crash”, and it’s so true!
So I can understand your fear you experienced 8 years ago, and while you may not have participated in the hate and disrespect of President Obama, it did happen and to the same level as what is happening to President Trump now. That does not make it ok, in fact, one would hope that people would instead be wiser and recognize that type of behavior does not solve anything. But we as humans aren’t always the best at learning from history are we?
What’s wonderful about our country is we have the right to disagree, but disagree peacefully. And instead of resorting to violence, or disrespect, take steps in your local community to make it better! Most of the time the ones who are so quick to voice their distaste are also doing nothing to see the improvements or changes they so loudly claim are the ‘right’ way.
I did not mean for this comment to go on for so long, haha but I, like you, am disappointed in the behavior of some of my fellow Americans. I hope for a peaceful 4 years and I am optimistic for a productive 4 years and I am grateful that when I do disagree with certain policies, I have the right to make it known. We’re lucky to have the country we do!
