From Battlefields to Boundaries: Healing, Living, Thriving
Hi, I’m Christina — and I’m really glad you’re here.

Heart & Stripes is a personal blog shaped by military service, lived experience, and the ongoing work of healing and becoming yourself again. What began as a milso blog has evolved into something deeper. Not because the military chapter ended, but because life continued to unfold.
For many years, this space reflected my life as a proud military spouse. I shared the realities of military life alongside the resilience, community, and sense of purpose that service brings. That season mattered. It still does. The values shaped by military life are part of who I am today.
At the same time, service asks a lot. Over time, I began to recognize that parts of myself had been set aside just to keep going. Those parts needed care, attention, and space to heal.
As my husband retired from the military and our lives shifted, I found myself standing at a new threshold. This wasn’t about walking away from the past. It was about learning how to integrate it more gently. Heart & Stripes became the place where I could begin that work honestly.
Today, I share what it looks like to heal from complicated family dynamics, navigate life as a disabled combat veteran, and gently step out of survival mode. I write about boundaries not as barriers, but as expressions of care. They are ways of protecting peace while still honoring the paths that led me here.
This space makes room for hard truths. It also holds space for quieter moments of relief, clarity, and growth that come when you no longer have to carry everything alone.
Here, healing isn’t about fixing yourself or pushing forward before you’re ready. It’s about slowing down, listening more closely, and letting softness exist alongside strength. You’ll find reflections on identity, emotional recovery, and rebuilding a grounded life shaped by service.
You’ll also find grounding practices woven throughout. That might look like tending a garden, baking bread, or returning to simple rituals that help the body feel safe and supported again.
Growth isn’t always dramatic. Often, it’s quiet. Often, it’s enough.
If you’re navigating life after service, healing from family trauma, living with disability, or rebuilding after a season that asked too much, you’re welcome here. You don’t need the right words or a clear plan. You don’t need to rush.
If you’re new to this space, I invite you to begin with my Welcome page, where I share the heart behind Heart & Stripes and how this space is meant to support you.
